How can my wetsuit be warmer with a reinforcement garment?

We often get asked in our stores about which wetsuit to buy. It's not easy when there are so many different models, thicknesses and price ranges. Many people buy their first wetsuit and wonder what thickness to go for.

Usually you buy a suit for one of the water sports you are doing and the purpose is to extend the season which is otherwise far too short in our cold climate. We sell a lot of suits in the thickness of 5/3 mm which is a good thickness for spring and autumn. The Prolimit Fusion Freezip 5/3 is our best-selling suit.
Among winter suits, the Prolimit Hydrogen 6/4 is a popular variant with single-needle openings over the chest, thighs and back that keep you tight and therefore warm. Fleece lining and reinforcements where needed.

As winter approaches and the cold weather sets in, the 5/3 suit can reach its limits and many people will stop their water sports and wait for spring instead. The cost of buying another wetsuit may simply mean that you choose to pack up your gear and put it in the garage while waiting for better weather and warmer weather.

We at Onwater think this is completely wrong. You miss out on many of the best experiences of the year with more wind, waves, fantastic colors and there are generally fewer boats on the water during the colder seasons. Instead, we recommend that you take a look at some of our nice reinforcement garments from Prolimit.

A water sports vest works in the same way as a base layer when you're skiing or doing any other activity in really cold weather. The difference is that it's made of thin neoprene, often with a fleece lining, and you wear it under your wetsuit.

Prolimits inner system reinforcement garments are 1.5 mm thick and thus build up your wetsuit to a thicker model without you having to buy a whole new wetsuit. Another advantage of Prolimits Inner system range is that they also work great to use completely without a wetsuit during the warmer days of the year.

They come in several different designs depending on which part of the suit you need to reinforce. The most common one we usually recommend to customers who want to extend the season with their existing suit is Prolimit's monoshort , which warms up the parts of the body that are sensitive to cold.

The neoprene vest with fleece lining is also a very popular option as it is flexible and warms the upper body, which is important to keep warm so that the rest of the body stays warm.
For example, if you are going to surf the waves, kitesurf or windsurf in slightly tougher conditions, we recommend the neoprene vest with an integrated hood . The neoprene vests are usually combined with Prolimits neoprene shorts .

We at Onwater wish you the best of luck with your water sports this fall and winter!
